Dec. 10/01 1st North American built DA40-180 Diamond Star Flies Following FAA IFR certification of its new four seater earlier this year, Diamond Aircraft Industries continues full steam ahead with the on-schedule first flight of the first North American-built DA40-180 Diamond Star. Equipped with Garmin's popular GNS 530/430, Honeywell's KAP140 autopilot and KCS55A HSI, the aircraft will be delivered to Empire Aviation of London, Ontario. Empire already operates four DA20-C1 two seaters and has ordered two of the new DA40 Diamond Stars. Diamond is ramping up production of the DA40 Diamond Star to eight aircraft per month by July 2002 and expects to deliver 85 DA40's next year. Production of the DA20-C1 continues in parallel. Concurrent availability of new 2 and 4 place certified aircraft from a single manufacturer has not existed since the days of the Cessna 152/172 and is expected to be a significant step in the evolution of Diamond Aircraft.
