Jul. 23/02 Avidyne and Diamond Aircraft introduce Avidyne's FlightMax Entegra Flight Deck for the DA40-180 Diamond Star Avidyne's new FlightMax Entegra integrated flight deck will be offered as an option on Diamond Aircraft Industries DA40 DiamondStar. "Embracing new technology and advancing safety are part of Diamond's design philosophy. It was only a matter of time until integrated 'glass cockpits' would make it from jets into GA piston powered aircraft and that time has finally come", said John Gauch, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Diamond Aircraft. The FlightMax Entegra system consists of two 10.4-inch diagonal, high-resolution, sunlight-readable displays; a primary flight display (PFD) with an integrated solid-state air data and attitude/heading reference system (ADAHRS), and an EX5000 multi-function display (MFD). The Entegra PFD presents standard flight instrumentation including attitude direction indicator (EADI), horizontal situation indicator (EHSI), altitude, airspeed, and vertical speed. The EX5000 MFD presents unique situational awareness capability including moving map, optional datalink weather, lightning, terrain, and traffic on an integrated display, as well as detailed engine information. First on the DiamondStar is the display of primary engine instrumentation on the PFD, making the use of back-up engine instruments unnecessary. "We were very impressed with Avidyne's flexibility in meeting our requirements. After initial review of the proposed system, we had requested the deletion of conventional powerplant instrumentation and Avidyne was very quick in turning this, the integration of the KAP140 autopilot, and our demonstrator aircraft installation into reality" said Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft Industries. With Diamond's support, Avidyne will be pursuing FAA Supplemental Type Certification of the installation by mid 2003. Diamond will be offering the FlightMax Entegra on new production aircraft, upon receipt of certification. Avidyne and Diamond will also cooperate on achieving European certification and integration into other Diamond Aircraft.
