Apr. 10/01 Diamond Aircraft's all-new 4-seater gets FAA certification Lakeland, Florida On April 9th 2001, the DA40-180 Diamond Star was awarded its FAA Type Certificate at a special ceremony at Diamond's Sun 'N Fun Display. Monte Belger, Deputy Administrator of the FAA presented the Type Certificate to Christian Dries, CEO of Diamond Aircraft. Also present were Peggy Gilligan, Deputy Associate Administrator for Regulation and Certification, Mike Gallagher, Manager, Small Aircraft Directorate, Michael Feinig, Managing Director of Diamond Austria, and Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft Industries. The all composite DA40 Diamond Star is powered by the Lycoming 180hp IO-360 engine and customers have the choice of Bendix/King or Garmin avionics. The Diamond Star offers excellent all around performance, 147 kt cruise speed, 9 gph fuel burn at a price of $189,900, equipped for IFR flight.
