3,700 feet of wiring!
Visitors to the Diamond Aircraft factory are always fascinated by the action in the factory, and our dynamic avionics department is no exception! Every day, over seventy technicians and assemblers carefully build the many aircraft wiring harnesses to run the avionics, lights and electrical devices in all of our aircraft.
All the electrical work, including crimping, is skillfully done by hand to ensure exceptional quality. When our team of master technicians have completed and installed each wiring harness – comprised of on average, a total 3,700 ft of wires per aircraft - the installation is then run through a final check by computer to ensure a highly reliable electrical system. The system has been designed to be safe and easy to operate, with all switches and breakers carefully positioned at your fingertips.

Expert Answers
I’ve heard the DA40 XL has active traffic – how is that different from the Mode S Transponder in my DA40 Diamond Star?
The Mode S transponder is a great device, but it relies on ground-based radar stations to provide data, so when you are out of an area covered by a Mode S radar station, you cannot receive traffic advisories. The Avidyne TAS600 system greatly improves safety by actively interrogating other aircraft aiding the pilot in visually acquiring traffic without the need for ground-based radar data.
The system offers three levels of advisories ranging from a target indication on the MFD and PFD display, to audible tones and voice advisories. e.g. "traffic, two o'clock, same altitude, less than 1 mile." This gives you an accurate way to help pinpoint other traffic, which is especially nice in congested areas or on hazy days. The dual directional antennas greatly improve the performance and accuracy of the system by reducing the shadowing effect common with single antenna systems.
The Avidyne system is very easy to use and brings fantastic traffic awareness and peace of mind to the cockpit of the DA40 XL.

Gems from Diamond Pilots:
Diamonds are close to a girl’s heart
“The sky seemed to be on fire,” said Jennifer Lyons, about the Victoria, British Columbia skyline of her first solo flight in May 1999, in a Diamond DA20. Now Chief Pilot of a successful aerial survey company at Toronto’s City Center Airport, Jennifer says that, seven years later, Diamond airplanes have remained closest to her heart, and that she is especially excited about an opportunity to visit our London, Ontario factory. To thank Jennifer for her story and photos, we will send her a desktop model of a Diamond airplane... to keep close to her heart.
